Backtagging?- YES! Love it
Threadhopping- also YES but let's communicate.
Fourthwalling?- Depends. Usually yes. Some more serious settings, no.
Inappropriate themes?- Generally YES, but asking is always appreciated.
Warnings- existentialism and nihilism may come up as well as themes of death and suicidal ideation. She does shoot herself in the head to use her powers, so. She is also endgame, and as such a walking game spoiler.

If you don't want to encounter spoilers for Persona 3, please comment below. The best option may be to just not have cr, but I can also do my best to avoid major game spoilers.

Social Link Tarot

Minako, being the protagonist from a Persona game, has a game-mechanic related power of being able to sense the 'arcana' of people she has more than just a passing acquaintanceship with. This means that, at the point at which a Social Link proper is established, she is able to sum up her friendship with the other person in the form of a card from the Major Arcana.

How is a Social Link formed?: A Social Link is established in the moment that something more personal than something you'd share with a stranger off the street is shared, or an important parallel between Minako and the other character has come to light for them. Essentially the point in which you go from being 'basic acquaintances' to 'new friends' is the point at which the Social Link starts, at Rank 1.

'Arcana'? 'Tarot?': I am referring specifically to the Major Arcana of Tarot cards, you know, the ones fortune tellers use? They have a game mechanic in Persona 3, but they do exist in real life. In order to establish the arcana of Minako's relationships I will be drawing both on how they work in the game as well as my own personal experience and deck, since I do have a relationship with card-based fortune telling. Of course if you have preferences and ideas, I would love to work with you to decide!

Here is a basic list of the Major Arcana and what they mean.

Please comment here if you have any questions or concerns about Minako having this power around your character, especially if you are in a game with me! You are perfectly allowed to opt out and I will find a suitable handwave reason for why she can't sense your character's arcana.

You are of course also welcome to talk to me on Plurk about it! [plurk.com profile] moxana But I might ask you to also comment here so that I can keep track of things!

Feel free to comment also if you would like to enthusiastically consent to her sensing your character's Arcana, and give me suggestions for what it should be! that's great too!

CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Minako Arisato
Canon: Persona 3 (Portable)
Gender: female
Age: 17
Species: human
Genitalia: your expected human vagina
Canon Point: Post-game
History: Her story is mostly the same as the male protagonist's (under "profile"), With a few changes. She can save a teammate who would otherwise die, Shinjiro Aragaki, through the conclusion of his social link where she returns his watch to him. The presence of the watch prevents the fatal bullet wound from reaching his heart.

Minako's story is not just a copy of Minato's with a girl character, in that sense. The differences between them lie in their presented reactions to the trauma of their childhood and the choices they make in Iwatodai. While Minato, the male character, makes social links with only the female friends in SEES, Minako has social links with every member of SEES, and a few other differences. Minako can have either Minato's Velvet room attendant Elizabeth, or Theodore, depending on the answer to a question Igor asks her. The events of The Answer in Persona 3 FES are not available, and arguably do not occur, in Persona 3 Portable. The consequences of that are left up to the imagination of the fans. Depending on context, I sometimes like to assume that the female protagonist is resting in relative peace as the great seal, rather than suffering at the hands of Erebus, as the male protagonist does.

Personality: As a 'silent' player character protagonist, Minako's personality is to a certain extent different for every player and game playthrough. However, she is not by any means an empty husk to be projected onto. Every person is born with a card in the Major Arcana that represents their life journey, and Minako's is The Fool, the 0th and 22nd card, representing infinite potential at the start or end of a journey. This relationship to the journey of the soul allows Minako to embody the aspects of any card in the Arcana. The result of this spiritual flexibility is that she can adapt herself to understand and compliment any person she interacts with, by emulating and embodying the aspects of their own Arcana card.

Minako is thereby the textbook definition of an Extrovert. She gains energy from being around people, and there's usually enough of that to begin with! She's not necessarily a talkative girl, unless you want her to be, but she's not afraid to show her feelings. Usually preferring to listen rather than talk, she loves nothing more in the world than to learn about other people and figure out new ways to make them happy, even subtle ways that might surprise people with their impact. She lives for positive interaction.

Along the same vein, Minako is a very intense empath. She is sensitive to the emotions of others, and it can affect her emotional state significantly. She uses this talent to gauge how people are responding to her, and adjust her attitude and actions accordingly. It can be a curse, however, in that she can't really turn it off and her own thoughts and feelings can end up being highly influenced by others, including people who may not be good for her to be emotionally fused with. In truth, she almost has no real set personality because she adapts it to every social situation in order to mesh as well as possible with every person she meets. It's not a flawless litmus, however, and she does make mistakes, say the wrong thing, or otherwise upset someone else. She doesn't usually respond to these kinds of failures well, and can stagnate badly when a problem in a relationship persists. In many social situations in the game, she's has choices, determined by the player, of what to say or do. Some of these choices lead to more positive interaction with the other characters involved and some cause the relationships to strain. Since Minako does not reach her full potential as the hero of the game without maxing all of her social links, it is logical to assume that the most "correct" response in every social situation is the most canon.

This lack of personality is strongest in the years between having Death sealed inside her and her return to Iwatodai. Once returning, and signing the contract that binds her to the fate of free will, she makes friends with the members of S.E.E.S., who help her remember who she was and could be if she let herself be her own person. She develops more of her own personality over the course of the canon, and the things that were always "her" and present in small amounts become more pronounced.

Those few things she does carry with her into almost every social landscape, despite her flexible tarot aspect are a reflection of the default male protagonist's as well as a compliment. She's his foil as the 22nd aspected Fool to his 0th aspect. She has a sense of humor and can deliver witty lines, either laughing or totally dry, when she feels it will be well-received. She is implied in her wider range of response options to have an expressive face, and can be very emotional under the right circumstances. She is also a born leader, comfortable taking responsibility for others as well as her own actions. No sacrifice is too big or too small for her to make for the sake of a friend. She cares too much about other people to make any decision but the best one for them, and people find it easy to trust her. Conversely, she trusts others easily, and is determined to see the best in them, and that kind of perspective on people comes easily to her. It is difficult for her to find something truly negative about people to say, unless she considers them a threat to her friends. It's an easy thing to become Minako's friend and a very difficult one to become her enemy. All of these things are true for her male counterpart, but expressed in slightly different ways. Where he hides his burdens behind an impossibly neutral expression, she hides behind smiles and optimism.

Abilities/Weaknesses: Minako is generally very athletic, which we know because of how slow she is to tire even from the start when battling and climbing Tartarus, and how easily she keeps up with star athletes in her volleyball tennis team. She learns how to wield a naginata as a basic weapon, sometimes swinging joke weapons like hockey sticks, suggesting she may have played hockey on her youth to develop that strength and endurance. As a Fool arcana Wild Card, she has the ability to control multiple personas from all the different arcana. She has the potential to discover 170 different personas, though she can only hold a limited amount at a time. She calls upon these personas with the use of her Evoker, which is a gun shaped object that she has to seemingly shoot herself in the head to use. These personas have a wide range of abilities, including healing, lowering and raising attack, defense, agility, physical attacks, and a list of elemental attacks (wind, ice, fire, lightning, light, dark). As I'm taking her from the end of canon, she has sacrificed herself and her ability to summon personas in order to create the great seal and protect humanity from destruction at the hands of Nyx. If she were to regain her powers, I would expect only Messiah and Orpheus Telos to be accessible to her, if she can evoke at all.

More... prose:
It hadn't taken long for Minako to decide to politely decline the offered contract and strike out into the nearby village. Last time she had been presented with a contract it had been exceptionally simple, and perfectly easy to want to agree to. Not to mention she had much less of a reason to be wary of anything back then. This time, however, there was fine print, and quite a lot of not-so-fine print, and all in all she didn't really feel the desire to be trained in magic. She knew all the magic she would ever need, thanks very much.

So her real adventure began, making a mental map of the area and getting a feel for the strange place she had woken up in. It was a dream, she was sure of it... or she had been at first when her feet had carried her to the sign and up into the castle. All sorts of dreams had materialized in her mind as she slept in effigy over the great seal. They usually weren't this vivid, though. Or long lasting. It was bizarre enough, that was for sure.

Still she found no reason to be alarmed as of yet. It was interesting here, and entertainment was in high demand for her. She wound her way around the residential areas and was drawn toward the market. It was lively looking even from a distance, even more so as she approached. There were people everywhere, in all sorts of clothing, hawking all sorts of interesting wares... most of which were sexual in nature, she noted. That's certainly different.

Curiosity drives her toward a stall that was handing out samples of what seemed to be pastries. A tray of options was shoved under her nose and she takes her time peering at them. Master/slave Meringue, Eiffel Tower Croissant, Foot Fetish Finger Sandwich... "Surprise me!" She declares after a long moment of thinking. The vendor gives her a side glance and double checks. Minako nods. So, with a mischievous grin, the vendor selects a chocolate covered pretzel sprinkled with salt and hands it to her. Without a moment's hesitation, Minako takes a bite. It's delicious! Soft and chocolately and just a little salty. She declares her approval and is met with a surprised look and loud raucous laughter. It's with a smirk of approval that she's told she's nibbling on a Pegging Pretzel.

Short version: backtag, threadhop all you like, but ask before assuming big effects.

I'm open and enjoy a great variety of kinks mostly in the bdsm/rp-in-rp/psychological realm. I'm slightly less into body fluids and that sort of thing, but talk to me and I'm probably happy to work it in for you! I'm also content to fade to black if you don't want to finish a thread for whatever reason ever. You'll make my day if you can cater to my handkink, d/s, bondage, or oral sex kinks, or my heavier more dubconny interests.
Character's AU Backstory: In this AU, Minako never had Death sealed inside her. She did still lose her parents to an explosion at the tender young age of 6. There was a devastating car wreck that led to one of the car's gas tanks catching on fire. Both of her parents were killed, but Minako survived. She was rescued from the wreckage by a family in a car behind her's, and brought to the EMTs and eventually the hospital.

Minako was a social, sensitive child from a young age, but the loss of her parents confounded that by aging her quickly passed her years. She travelled from distant family member to foster homes, and back and forth for the rest of her young life, constantly being expected to be able to take care of herself in some fashion or another, or just not being paid close attention to at home. She internalized this idea of putting the needs of others before herself and focusing on external situations and became incredibly empathic. It's a double-edged sword, but she's very good at wielding it. She's incredibly socially adaptive and is at her happiest when she's making everyone around her happy. She can come across as silly and childish but it's almost always her way of protecting everyone around her (and oftentimes herself) from any heavier emotions or thoughts she may have.

When she turned 18 and left the foster system, she floundered a little. All the moving around and lack of attention or support did not prepare her for college, and she had very little work experience. A few failed job attempts and an offhand comment by a previous supervisor led her to explore the option of working in the "red light" district. She got a part time gig at a maid cafe and loved every minute of it. When she heard that the well reputed Velvet Bordello was hiring full-time she went in for an interview straightaway and, well, the rest was history. She's now 19 years old, 2 years older than her canon counterpart.

My personal read of her character, why, and how that influences how I write:

Minako is a point of view player character. Unlike the other important characters in persona 3 portable, her voice actor has almost no lines to speak. We hear her call for her Persona in the first full moon battle sequence, and in her short lines in battle. Other than that, all of her interactions are text-based and depend on the player's decisions. She is, in many ways, a form for us to step into as we play the game.

I see much more than that. Minako isn't an empty shell to be filled, to me, at all. She is the embodiment of what her special potential is. She is adaptability. She can pull from the ocean of her soul any psyche that will compliment that of the person she's interacting with. It's part messiah complex, part defense mechanism, and part true life's calling. She is at her absolute happiest and best when she knows that she is complimenting her friend's personality and making them happy and comfortable. She takes steps back as a person and in her destiny when she fails to meet that standard, when she says or does the wrong thing. And maybe that's all it comes down to: destiny. She never had a say in the fact that she would be dionysian in her most fundamental nature, but that is the destiny she was given. Like she was told by Pharos, there isn't a way that her future and the fate of everything can be changed, even if her power makes it seem like it's possible.

Considering that, who Minako is, at her best, is exactly who the person she cares most about nearest to her needs her and wants her to be. She is as gentle, as funny, as charming, as enthusiastic as their personality dictates. Whenever she gets the chance she will tease and not take shit and get excited and sunny about everything. Only in the most extreme of cases will she ever lose her sense of responsibility and leadership.

However when she doesn't live up to that, and can't manage to be Right for someone, she falters. If she shows too much of the wrong emotion her relationship will stagnate, and so will she. It's unclear which of these causes the other but they are always correlated. She will play it safe when she doesn't know someone well enough to fully gauge what they want from her, who they most want her to be, but she's pretty good at figuring it out. It's her calling, after all.

Practically, this means Minako will almost never speak unless spoken to first, preferring to communicate with her facial expressions and posture. She doesn't say more than she needs to to get her message across, and almost never displays extreme emotion. Because she would hate to overstep herself with anyone and ruin the relationship, it's only with people she knows extremely well that she will display dramatic emotion around, unless she is absolutely 100% convinced it will be received well.

She is a born leader and a gentle heart. Strong and determined, emotional in every way within. She's everything you want her to be, if you'll let her. She thrives on praise.
